According to Aykroyd, the roles were initially envisioned for Eddie Murphy and John Belushi, his fellow Saturday Night Live (SNL) alumni, alongside himself.

Aykroyd revealed, “I wrote it for Eddie Murphy. It was me, John Belushi, and Eddie Murphy. We were supposed to be the original Ghostbusters.” This revelation offers a tantalizing glimpse into an alternate version of the film that could have been, with Murphy and Belushi bringing their unique comedic talents to the paranormal adventure.
