Cory Driscoll Finally Released the Much-Anticipated Album, “Eureka Springs.”
Jacksonville recording artist Cory Driscoll’s conceptual album titled “Eureka Springs” is out now. In this nine-track album, Driscoll demonstrates the story of a father’s journey to the heart of America in search of redemption and understanding. The release of “Eureka Springs” follows his 2018 EP “Tropical Depression,” which will be marked with the video premiere of the album’s highlight track, “Ahead Of My Heels,” on March 25th, 2022. Cory was looking for a creative outlet during quarantine, so he collaborated with nine of his musician mates from all around the United States to create the full-length project. All of the musicians were in different locations due to the COVID-19 restrictions. They all recorded individual tracks, which were then assembled piece by piece using file-sharing technology. Each song on the album was built differently depending on input from the band members, resulting in a diverse range of sounds.
“Eureka Springs” begins in a tropical atmosphere and gradually progresses westward toward a more delta-influenced sound and eventually onto the mountain range, where it becomes a blend of modern country-folk psychedelia and other influences. Eureka Springs is named after the Arkansas town that sits immediately on top of a naturally occurring water source that is abundant in minerals. It combines unique sounds throughout, from the tropical beginning “Ahead of My Heels” to the ethereal title track, giving audiences the impression they’ve just traveled from coast to coast. The album concludes with the menacingly melancholic “Anonymous Water.” Long Jump Records will release a limited edition of 300 pressed vinyl records in April, with all proceeds going to charity. Speaking about his latest album and its name, Cory said, “The history of the land made me feel extremely connected to the place and the mythological character of the life-giving spring… it’s replete with poetic language.” “We set out to tour the country from coast to coast and from the heartland of the United States through the flow of the record from song to song,” Cory explains. “That was the thread that ran through the entire composition process.”
Cory Driscoll is a talented singer-songwriter who has been writing music for almost twenty years and has received numerous awards. His earliest recordings were a collection of folk songs on tapes. During his time in Tallahassee, Florida, he established the post-punk band Curious Animals, which was active from 2008 to 2011. He then formed the post-rock band Young Adult, which was active from 2012 to 2016. In 2018, Cory published his debut self-titled EP, “Tropical Depression,” which was influenced by the story of a family that formed and then disintegrated during a vacation that rained out. Classic artists such as The Beatles, Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, and Neil Young serve as sources of influence for Cory’s music.
“Eureka Springs” is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify. Visit Cory’s Instagram account to find out more about his future projects and activities.
