Keke Palmer and SZA Forged Friendship in Laughter and Hard Work for “One of Them Days” Film
Creating strong connections between actors is essential for a memorable performance, and that’s exactly what Keke Palmer and SZA focused on before starting their new movie, One of Them Days. Rather than just acting like best friends on screen, they made an effort to become friends in real life. Keke Palmer, who is both acting in and producing the film, took extra steps to ensure they built a solid bond. The movie follows two close friends, Dreux (played by Palmer) and Alyssa (played by SZA), who are trying to find a way to come up with money for rent before they get evicted. While their on screen friendship looks effortless, it took some work to get there.
Palmer emphasized that their connection didn’t happen by accident. She told The Cut, “That wasn’t just me, Keke Palmer, the actress, making sure we had time to connect. That was me, Keke Palmer, the producer.” Keke knew that they needed to have a real friendship for the film to be special. Their bond grew throughout rehearsals in Atlanta, where they spent time preparing for their roles and sharing fun moments together. One highlight was at the 2024 Grammys, where they were seen laughing and chatting backstage before SZA’s amazing performance, further strengthening their friendship.
Although SZA is famous for her incredible music and stage presence, One of Them Days is her first big acting role. Keke was one of the first people to recognize SZA’s talent for comedy. Reflecting on a moment they shared on Saturday Night Live in 2022, Palmer noted how funny SZA is without even trying. “People often think musicians can’t act, but she’s naturally hilarious,” Keke said. “She’s vulnerable, excitable, and eccentric but also incredibly serious and focused.”
Together, Keke and SZA bring their characters to life with a perfect blend of laughter and heart. Their authentic friendship shines through both in their performances and behind the scenes, showing that the best on screen relationships often come from real connections in life. As One of Them Days gets ready to be released, it’s clear that Keke and SZA’s effort to build their friendship has created something truly special for audiences to enjoy.

Kalpee Honors Heritage and Heart on His Emotion-Rich New EP Dougla Boi
Kalpee is back with Dougla Boi, a beautiful new EP that is both personal and powerful. It gives listeners a close look at the layers of identity, heritage, and emotion that make him who he is. The Trinidad and Tobago artist is confident in his own space, which is rooted in New Calypso and polished with hints of dancehall, R&B, and afrobeats. In this space, genre bends, but emotion leads.
Named after the Trinidadian word for someone of mixed African and Indian heritage, Dougla Boi is honest, proud, and warm about the complexities of culture. Kalpee opens a window into the dualities that define him across six tracks, turning personal truth into universal resonance. The EP is just under 19 minutes long, but every second is carefully planned to take listeners on a journey through courage, joy, healing, and the quiet strength that comes from accepting all parts of yourself.
The first single, “Under,” stands out right away for its calming yet emotionally charged experience. Kalpee’s voice flows over a beat that sounds both new and old, fitting the EP’s theme of bringing cultures together. It’s one of the best examples of how he can mix soft and hard sounds, which is what makes his New Calypso sound so unique.
“Everybody,” which features Full Blown, is another excellent song that has already done very well. It has a happy vibe and an infectious bounce, making it one of the EP’s most replayable songs. “Everybody” captures the spirit of community and shared experience, which is what Kalpee means when he says that identity is not a box but a rhythm.
