DJ Akademiks Issues Stern Warning To West Coast Artists After Dody6 & Kendrick Lamar Controversy

Honk Magazine

DJ Akademiks Issues Warning to All West Coast Rappers, Referencing Kendrick Lamar. If you haven’t been up to DJ Akademiks’ live streams lately, check them out. The debate stemmed from the aftermath of Dody6 publicly explaining he was homeless after working with K.Dot a few months before the release of the song “hey now,” a record that was included in Lamar’s successful GNX project. So far, Kendrick Lamar’s permission to be involved with GNX has earned him resounding accolades. At the same time, Dody6 has opened a can of worms, sparking conversations about the music industry and whether the young Kenyan was fact or fiction.

The radio host took to his live stream to chime in on the chat, leaving behind the barred approach that made him famous with his blistering and brash opinions. But he felt compelled to clarify that though Kendrick Lamar is highly influential in hip-hop, he’s not a “stimulus package” for the artists he works with. Lamar has such a large fanbase that said support will not transfer to every West Coast artist he chooses to work with, a point not all of those artists seem to have fully taken on board, Akademiks added. He also stressed that it’s not necessarily an automatic career or wealth lift for anyone who manages to get close to Kendrick. “You gotta hold yourself accountable,” he said, articulating the feeling that Dody6’s story was less about how Lamar had helped and more about holding oneself accountable.

And while Akademiks made it known that things are cool with Kendrick, he didn’t mince his words when it came to Dody6. Referring to the artist’s public appeal as “begging,” Akademiks implied that Dody6 proved that there’s no sense of accountability. The comment started further online conversation about the pressures put on artists and the subtle dynamics of collaboration in the industry. The conversation also sparks a much-needed discussion on what is demanded when artists become famous and begin to work together. While West Coast artists continue to struggle with aspects of the industry, Akademiks reminds us that achieving success in music is about being accountable and standing on a solid foundation.

Snoop Dogg Wants To Pay Someone $10,000 A Month To Eat Ice Cream

Snoop Dogg has had a lot of job titles over the years, but “official ice cream taster” wasn’t one of them until now — and he’s hiring someone else to fill it. His company Dr. Bombay just opened applications for the role, and it pays $10,000 a month.

The gig is fully remote and open to anyone on the planet, which Snoop announced himself in a video that’s exactly as laid-back as you’d expect. “I love the paper, but not the paperwork,” he said, explaining that HR firm Deel is handling the logistics while he handles, presumably, the ice cream.

The actual job is less “sit around and eat pints all day” and more part-time cultural scout. Whoever gets it will track flavor and food trends around the world, report back on what people are eating and talking about, and work directly with Dr. Bombay’s in-house flavor lead to help shape what the brand does next. It’s a three-month contractor role, and Snoop’s team says they’re actively looking outside the usual resume pile — creators and non-traditional applicants welcome.

Dr. Bombay itself leans nostalgic, with flavors like Long Beach Fruit Cart, Sticky Caramel Apple Pie, and Peanut Butter Jelly Time already sitting on shelves at Walmart and moving through DoorDash and Instacart. Somewhere out there is one very lucky applicant about to get paid five figures a month to have opinions about ice cream, and honestly, good for them.
