Chris Brown Clashes With Journalist as Debate Over His Abuse History Resurfaces

Chris Brown is once again involved in a public spat about how to discuss his history of violence against women. The singer took on journalist David Dennis Jr. after the writer criticized the singer’s supporters, who downplayed allegations that followed Brown’s 2009 assault of Rihanna.

Brown has pled guilty to felony assault in the 2009 Rihanna case. Other allegations involving Brown have led to civil suits, firings, or no criminal conviction. In one of the more high-profile cases, Karrueche Tran was granted a five-year restraining order against Brown in 2017 after presenting the court with threatening messages. The Los Angeles Times reported the case at the time.

That distinction has been crucial to Brown’s response. He argued that charges or convictions had to be part of allegations before they could be automatically considered established criminal conduct. Dennis’ criticism was broader, not only about criminal convictions but also the ongoing allegations and legal battles that have haunted Brown since the Rihanna assault.

Brown also has a separate case involving a man who recently went to court. He pled guilty in July to an affray in London over a fight in a nightclub in 2023 with music producer Abe Diaw. Brown changed his plea to a lesser charge, The Guardian reported. “This is not violence against women; this is a different issue than what Dennis is raising.

As the debate was still swirling online, Brown took to an Instagram Story to vent his frustrations with the music industry, saying he doesn’t want their fake love and that he hates the music business

The latest spat underscores an ongoing debate about how to judge Brown’s past. His felony assault conviction dates back to 2009, and various legal conclusions have been reached in the years since because of allegations and civil cases. Brown has repeatedly objected to the categories being treated as if they had the same legal status. But his critics, including Dennis, say the broader history of accusations still matters to discussions of the singer’s behavior and public image.

Fat Joe has finally responded to Papoose’s recent claim that he ghostwrote some of Remy Ma’s lines, offering a firsthand account of what he’s seen during his longtime relationship with the rapper.

Joe was keen to explain why he has stayed out of the increasingly public fight between the former couple. His relationship with their daughter, Reminisce, remains central to that decision, with Joe calling her his goddaughter and making it clear he does not want his relationship with either parent to become pulled.

But when the conversation turned directly to the songwriting accusations, Joe said he had never seen anybody write Remy’s rhymes himself. He also mentioned her recent creative output, saying she had completed ten songs in one week and was still heavily involved in her lines.

Papoose reignited the ghostwriting debate earlier this month with “Jezebel,” a track released during his ongoing divorce from Remy. As Complex previously reported, the track finds Papoose boasting that he secretly wrote some of his estranged wife’s raps while publicly praising her skills.

The charge is not entirely new. Remy had already fought back on “W.Y.F.L.,” denying rumors that Papoose ghostwrote her material months earlier.

Joe answered that question, but he didn’t pick a side in the larger battle over the ex couple. Instead, he kept saying he knew Reminisce and wanted to stay in his goddaughter’s life without adding more tension between her parents.

That also explains Joe’s decision to keep himself at arm’s length from the divorce itself. He even joked that he has more pictures of his goddaughter in his room than he does of his own children.

Young Thug reconnected with a fan who sent him an unexpected message that helped him stay connected to those closest to him while he was in Fulton County Jail.

The rapper spent several years in jail waiting for his YSL RICO trial, a time filled with uncertainty and few chances to talk to friends and family. Young Thug ultimately signed a plea deal that released him from jail and placed him on 15 years’ probation.

But communication remained a major challenge in the initial months of his detention. Young Thug’s ability to communicate with the outside world was limited, and the question remained who his co defendants were and how their individual legal choices would affect his defense.

About six months after Young Thug entered Fulton County Jail, one fan figured out how to send a message to his iPad. According to Thugger Daily on X, the rapper was stunned by the unexpected message.

That moment recently came full circle when the fan got a meet-and-greet with Young Thug on Monday. Thugger Daily proved he hadn’t forgotten the one who managed to find her way to him during such a difficult time, when the rapper learned her name and knew it was her.

Young Thug’s connection grew from a simple message from a fan into something meaningful. It was difficult to contact loved ones back then, so this unexpected contact became a way for him to stay in touch with the people who mattered most to him.

Young Thug is now out of jail and back to work, touring the United States with his YSL roster. The recent meet-and-greet gave him a chance to reconnect with someone who had been there for him during one of the most uncertain periods of his life.
