Chris Brown is once again involved in a public spat about how to discuss his history of violence against women. The singer took on journalist David Dennis Jr. after the writer criticized the singer’s supporters, who downplayed allegations that followed Brown’s 2009 assault of Rihanna.

Brown has pled guilty to felony assault in the 2009 Rihanna case. Other allegations involving Brown have led to civil suits, firings, or no criminal conviction. In one of the more high-profile cases, Karrueche Tran was granted a five-year restraining order against Brown in 2017 after presenting the court with threatening messages. The Los Angeles Times reported the case at the time.

That distinction has been crucial to Brown’s response. He argued that charges or convictions had to be part of allegations before they could be automatically considered established criminal conduct. Dennis’ criticism was broader, not only about criminal convictions but also the ongoing allegations and legal battles that have haunted Brown since the Rihanna assault.

Brown also has a separate case involving a man who recently went to court. He pled guilty in July to an affray in London over a fight in a nightclub in 2023 with music producer Abe Diaw. Brown has repeatedly objected to the categories being treated as if they had the same legal status. This isn’t the first time Richie’s tour plans have been derailed by health concerns this year. He cut a concert short in St. Paul in June after feeling dizzy onstage. He later postponed two shows on medical advice before eventually returning to the tour.

Despite the latest cancellations, Richie’s current tour schedule includes a scheduled Oct. 14 show at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas. Wynn Las Vegas still lists that show, along with other October dates.

Richie’s representative notes that the procedure was “a success,” and his recent health problems have interrupted his performance schedule. But he will return after recovery, with the Las Vegas performance on Oct. 14 as his next scheduled appearance.
