See Your Shadow Finds Inspiration In The Smell Of Bacon On New Single Release

The chart-topping songwriting and production team releases their latest single, “Simple Special Moment” on January 28th, 2022.

We encounter so many people, even strangers, that add that moment of joy to our lives and give us a memory that we never forget, a story that we tell over and over because it just makes us feel good”— Michael Coleman, See Your Shadow

Heart. It’s what See Your Shadow’s music is all about. Heart…and bacon! After releasing 5 international iTunes chart-topping singles and amassing 300K Spotify streams and 800K Youtube views, the Phoenix-based country music songwriting and production team is taking time to enjoy every “Simple Special Moment” in life. In fact, that’s the name of their latest single release, dropping on January 28th, 2022.

SYS musical director and songwriter, Michael Coleman explains the song’s origin…and the bacon inspiration:

“Simple Special Moment’ started as a scribble on a cocktail napkin. While having a couple of drinks, the line in the chorus that goes, ‘the smell of bacon filled my nose’ came to me, and I thought that painted such a vivid visual, that I wrote it down, because as you know when bacon is cooking, it just fills the whole house with this great smell. I saved the napkin; held onto it for quite a long time. I was down in Nashville on business, and an opportunity came up for me to write and pitch to a finalist for the television show, “The Voice.” I ran across that cocktail napkin that had that line scribbled on it, and I constructed the story around that line. We encounter so many people, even strangers, that add that moment of joy to our lives and give us a memory that we never forget, or a story that we tell over and over because it just makes us feel good, and that person creates such a lasting impression without even knowing it. That human element, that human experience is at the heart of the piece, and it really is at the heart of the work of See Your Shadow.”

“Simple Special Moment” (Michael Coleman, BMI)

3:00 AM on a Sunday
On tour barely getting paid
Neon sign says open all night long
Story of her life in her face
Dreamin’ she worked a five-star place
Kindness she gave away for free
I watched her as she took me to my seat
Honey, baby, sugar what she called me

I had scrambled eggs, grits, and toast
The smell of bacon filled my nose
She confessed she had a tattoo
I spilled coffee in my lap
Said a four-letter word made her laugh
And we shared a simple special moment

Back of a limousine
Top of Billboard Magazine
Name in lights ‘cause I worked so hard
Room reserved for VIPs
Radio contest meet ‘n’ greet
She came in nervous as can be
Held out her hand said how do you do
I said OMG I remember you

I had scrambled eggs, grits, and toast
The smell of back filled my nose
You confessed you had a tattoo
I spilled coffee in my lap
Said a four-letter word made you laugh
And we shared a simple special moment

Many nameless strangers make up our past
Leaving us with memories that can last

Cardi B Claps Back at Joe Budden’s Apology, “You’ve Been Changing Your Tone on Me Real Heavy”

Cardi B

Cardi B took to Twitter Spaces to blast Joe Budden, accusing him of trashing her every release and urging him to back off. Budden briefly responded on X, denying accusations about cocaine, lap dances, and more. He insisted he loves Cardi and meant no offense, expressing his anticipation for her upcoming album.

In a new podcast episode released today, Budden went more in-depth, apologizing and taking accountability for upsetting Cardi, even though he didn’t agree with all her accusations. He stated he won’t let anyone “suppress [his] voice” and will continue discussing her despite his previous promise.

Cardi B has now responded to Budden’s apology, seemingly settling their spat. “I got love for you too Joe, but you’ve been changing your tone on me real heavy the last 3 years whether music or personal,” she wrote. “Like when I was going through real sh*t with my marriage in December, you went on your platform and tried to make that about somebody else and what they got going on. I know criticism comes with the territory, but sometimes the narrative y’all decide to run with is soooo toxic. It’s all love though, see you soon.”

Based on Cardi’s post, it appears she might be willing to put the past behind her, though it’s unclear if Budden will change his approach. What do you think of Cardi B’s response to Joe Budden’s apology? Do you think this settles their spat for good? Share your thoughts in the comments and keep an eye on Honk Magazine for more updates.

That’s not a joke. My lawyers will be like, ‘It’s a joke.’ But it’s not a joke.”
