A big voice with an even bigger heart, soprano Summer Watson is a singer on a mission. The chart-topping international vocalist aims to inspire as well as entertain. “Go for your dreams and never give up” is the message of this world-class classical crossover artist. Having beaten breast cancer and survived a deadly train crash she knows all too well the setbacks that challenge us in life. But Summer also understands the importance of determination, the healing power of music, and how to let talent flourish.

Hello Summer, welcome to Honk Magazine, we are thrilled to have you with us today!

Thank you so much for having me!!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a British Classical Crossover artist, who now lives in LA. I trained at the Royal College of Music, London, my love of classical music and more contemporary music initiated the spark within me to want to be able to blend classical music with more contemporary music such as Sting and film music on the same album. I signed to Sony and had the honor of recording at Abbey Road studios, London – the album went to #1 on the iTunes charts in the US.

As well as performing the wealth of amazing music out there – I also love to write my own music. My inspiration comes from life’s journey embedded with the love of the phenomenal nature here in LA, Malibu being some of my favorite scenery. I love to reset at least once a week and head to Venice beach to swim.

“Break The Silence” marks your big return after battling breast cancer. What is the lesson you want your listeners to take from this single?

It is crucial for us all to take some time to get quiet, what is our inner self trying to tell us? And then to break the silence and release the authentic you. The Break the Silence song & video represents that many people work their whole lives and are never happy and go against what their inner voice is telling them. It doesn’t matter what we do in this life – but it is crucial that we are being authentic and can break free and live our truth.

You are a stunning warrior! Where do you find your strength?

Aww, that’s so kind of you to say! I pull strength from meditating every day, from the greats before me like Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana. My drive and strength on a daily basis comes from my amazing Mum. She has supported me my entire life.

You have traveled a lot, and your life’s story is truly inspiring. How does experiencing so many cultures influence your music?

I love this question. I think it is so important for all of us, especially artists, to get out of our bubble and experience as many cultures and different ways of living as possible. The weeks I lived in Africa and got to spend time with the Massai tribe and seeing the most amazing safari and landscapes definitely plays a part in the orchestration of one of the new singles in my upcoming EP Unveiled. Visiting Iceland & New Zealand and seeing the most epic scenery allowed for the visuals in my head for the new EP to come to life. Experiencing so many different cultures has allowed me to see that essentially we all want one thing and that is to feel connected and to be happy.

How do you create your music? Do you first write the lyrics or compose melodies?

I am extremely blessed to have been writing with my writing partner Taras for over 6 years now. I tend to share something that is inside of me that I want to express, we write the chord structure on the piano, then a vocal melody usually comes to me, and then together we write the lyrics based off of the story I want to share.

Your latest release topped iTunes charts, do you feel any pressure with your upcoming EP? Can you tell us a little bit more about this project?

Firstly it is still surreal that the SUMMER (Spotify) album with Sony was #1 in the States on the iTunes chart. I am more invested in the process of creativity than the outcome. Obviously, I would love everyone to be inspired by the new single Break the Silence and the whole EP Unveiled, but I personally am extremely proud of it as it marks a new chapter in my life. I have had an amazing year and it has been one of my most creative years to date. In April, my golden retriever Marleigh passed away in my arms and the pain was unbearable. The only way out is through – so I committed to being in the studio every day. Writing and recording every day releasing the pain from within was such a healing process. The other singles on the album represent different stages of the metamorphosis we all have inside of us. Break the Silence and release what’s inside of you, Unveiled is unveiling our inner beauty, This Life celebrates life – showing us that life is so beautiful.

How would you describe your sound?

The best way to describe my sound is to imagine an Adele pop-style vocal with epic Bond-esque cinematic orchestration. Classical, but mostly pop-driven, deep harmonies, and big ensembles for the world stage, with soaring but elegant vocals.

As a crossover singer, you create a truly unique kind of music! Would you give a chance to experiment with other genres like hip-hop or edm?

In a heartbeat – I love collaborating with different artists! I think those genres would lend themselves very well to a classical crossover vocal artist such as myself.

Who are some of the artists you would love to collaborate with?

Drake, Pharrell Williams, Sting, Adele, David Foster

What’s your current favorite song and album?

My friend and amazing singer Connor Duermit & Sam Fischer are two artists I love.

What’s next for Summer Watson?

Really excited to be telling everyone about the upcoming singles. Planning a new video for one of the singles. Lots of time interacting with everyone online. And then the plan is to get writing in the studio again!

Chloe Bailey Sparks Mixed Reaction to Her Crush Confession – Being “Convinced” She’d End Up With Kendrick Lamar

Chloe Bailey

Chloe Bailey has always been unapologetically authentic; the multifaceted singer and actress recently made waves in the social media world, revealing a piece of her past celebrity crush that sent fans into a frenzy. During an Instagram Live session, Bailey casually shared that she was massively into Kendrick Lamar phase, the famous rapper a few years ago, so much so that she was “convinced” they would end up together. While this might seem innocent, her candidness about this youthful dream of a romantic connection with the Compton rapper has sparked a mix of reactions online, with some fans swooning and others raising eyebrows.

Bailey, who has long been a huge fan of Kendrick’s music, confessed her admiration in a nostalgic and heartfelt way. “About eight years ago, I had a whole Kendrick phase, and I was convinced I was going to be with him,” she shared, reflecting on how deep her fandom ran. She added, “I’ve been a die-hard Kendrick fan from day 1. So I haven’t just hopped on the bandwagon.” Bailey had been captivated by Kendrick’s artistry long before he became a superstar.

The polarizing conversation speaks volumes about the nuanced dynamics of fandom and celebrity culture. Her comments quickly caught the attention of online critics. While it seems her feelings stemmed from a past crush, many people questioned the appropriateness of joking about it, especially considering Kendrick’s public relationship with longtime partner Whitney Alford. One Instagram user disapproved, stating, “He’s married, so why would you even post this? SMH.” Others echoed this sentiment, questioning Bailey’s respect for Kendrick’s relationship and accusing her of crossing a line.

But many fans came to Bailey’s defense, reminding the critics that crushes on celebrities, even married ones, are nothing new. “So y’all don’t have crushes on celebrities that are married? Method Man? Idris Elba? Denzel Washington? Come on now,” one follower humorously pointed out. Another fan calmly pointed out, “She said 8 years ago!” emphasizing that this was a memory she shared, not her present-day fixation.

Central to the discussion is an inherent truth: celebrity crushes are a universal phenomenon. Chloe’s admission was probably a lighthearted memory peek into her younger years, admiring one of hip-hop’s most extraordinary talents. Whether she was crushing on Kendrick Lamar or another prominent star, it’s evident that the notion of distant admiration is a sentiment many can identify: signifying a harmless crush is a totally normal part of being a fan and nothing to take too seriously!

Ice Cube Reveals Hollywood Turned Down His Sequel New “Friday” Movie

Ice Cube

For fans of the “Friday” series, the dream of a new installment seems stuck in a frustrating loop of Hollywood bureaucracy. Ice Cube, a legend in both hip-hop and film, recently opened up about the hurdles he’s faced in trying to bring another “Friday” movie to life. Speaking candidly on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, the multi-talented West Coast icon revealed that studio executives have repeatedly shut down his vision for the franchise’s next chapter. And if you ask Cube, the problem isn’t his creativity; the decision-makers just don’t get it.

“Like, I know what it needs to be, and they don’t,” Cube told Newton, pointing to a former New Line executive, Toby Emmerich, as a significant roadblock. Ice Cube had written a script he believed would revive the beloved series, even imagining Chris Tucker’s return to his iconic role as Smokey. But studio execs reportedly balked at the storyline, which featured time spent in jail. “They was like, ‘Ah, jail’s not funny. It’s too much time in jail. How can you make jail funny?’” Cube explained, expressing his frustration with their lack of vision. Ironically, he pointed out, Hollywood has greenlit numerous successful jail-centered comedies, like Orange Is The New Black and Let’s Go To Prison.

Ice Cube didn’t mince words when describing the disconnect between creative talent and studio decision-makers. “More Hollywood execs don’t know what the f**k they’re talking [about],” he said. And when Newton suggested taking the project to another studio, Cube explained the legal red tape: “It’s not that simple. We did the movie through New Line, and they attached it to all the sequels. Has to come out through New Line.”

The rapper-turned-actor’s frustration is palpable, but it’s clear that his passion for the project hasn’t waned. Ice Cube’s ability to capture the humor and heart of everyday struggles made the 1995 classic “Friday” a cultural phenomenon. For Ice Cube, it wasn’t just a movie; it was a cultural milestone that sparked laughter and dialogue about life in the hood, told through an unfiltered comedic lens. Fans have been yearning for a return to the franchise’s hilariously relatable world, and with Ice Cube’s track record of success, it’s hard to imagine a script penned by him falling flat.

Hollywood, take heed: Ice Cube’s artistic vision deserves recognition. While his latest album, ‘Man Down,’ reminds fans of his brilliance in the rap game. However, many still hope Ice Cube can finally say “Bye, Felicia” to Hollywood’s bureaucracy and ultimately produce the much-anticipated sequel that “Friday” fans want. After all, who better to encapsulate the laughs and life lessons of a modern-day “Friday” than the man who originally initiated this beloved series?
