Doechii’s “Anxiety” Sparks Unexpected Pay Day For Gotye

H

Doechii’s catchy song “Anxiety” is topping music charts and helping out music legends Gotye and Luis Bonfá financially. The track recently spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart and has sparked renewed interest in the songs that inspired it. So, what’s the connection? “Anxiety” cleverly includes a sample from Gotye’s famous 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” which in turn draws from Luis Bonfá’s classic piece from 1967 called “Seville.”

Because of this sampling, both Gotye and Bonfá earn a share of the profits from Doechii’s song, with each expected to make around $72,000. This financial boost comes from two main reasons. First, since Doechii uses their original tracks, the owners of those songs automatically get a portion of the earnings from “Anxiety.” Second, because “Anxiety” is gaining so much attention, people are also listening to Gotye and Bonfá’s original songs more, which means extra earnings for them. Interestingly, “Anxiety” isn’t new. Doechii first released it in 2019, but it has recently gained popularity again.

In light of this renewed interest, she recorded a new version of the song and added it as a bonus track to her latest album, Alligator Bites Never Heal. This move paid off, as the song soared to number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, marking it as a major hit today. This story shows how older and newer music can come together in a way that benefits everyone involved.

For Gotye and Bonfá, both of whom have already made a mark in the music world, Doechii’s “Anxiety” brings them fresh recognition and a nice financial reward proving once again the lasting impact of a great song and a well-executed sample. As “Anxiety” continues to resonate with listeners, it’s clear that this collaboration across different eras and styles has created a win-win scenario. It introduces Doechii’s unique sound to new fans while also giving credit to the musical pioneers who influenced her work.

Snoop Dogg Wants To Pay Someone $10,000 A Month To Eat Ice Cream

Snoop Dogg has had a lot of job titles over the years, but “official ice cream taster” wasn’t one of them until now — and he’s hiring someone else to fill it. His company Dr. Bombay just opened applications for the role, and it pays $10,000 a month.

The gig is fully remote and open to anyone on the planet, which Snoop announced himself in a video that’s exactly as laid-back as you’d expect. “I love the paper, but not the paperwork,” he said, explaining that HR firm Deel is handling the logistics while he handles, presumably, the ice cream.

The actual job is less “sit around and eat pints all day” and more part-time cultural scout. Whoever gets it will track flavor and food trends around the world, report back on what people are eating and talking about, and work directly with Dr. Bombay’s in-house flavor lead to help shape what the brand does next. It’s a three-month contractor role, and Snoop’s team says they’re actively looking outside the usual resume pile — creators and non-traditional applicants welcome.

Dr. Bombay itself leans nostalgic, with flavors like Long Beach Fruit Cart, Sticky Caramel Apple Pie, and Peanut Butter Jelly Time already sitting on shelves at Walmart and moving through DoorDash and Instacart. Somewhere out there is one very lucky applicant about to get paid five figures a month to have opinions about ice cream, and honestly, good for them.
