  1. Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Harmony– Hey, I am Harmony Aaliyah Jakie from Melbourne Australia. I am a 15-year-old Singer, Actress, and Model. My main passion is singing and acting. From the moment I could talk my parents always said I would sing and hum to any music that was playing. I started singing lessons at 8 years old with my current teacher Cassandra Ame after being told by many people I had a beautiful and unique singing voice. Singing is my passion and my chosen career path.

I spend many hours in my room singing, playing guitar and piano, and perfecting my craft. Even if it annoys my little sisters Aaliyah and Destiny. I cannot help but sing 24/7 it’s my true love. I have also studied acting and been in short films and currently star in TV commercials in Australia. Modeling has come as a sideline to my singing and acting. Being in the right place at the right time.

  1. Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started this career?

Harmony– Actually, I was chosen to act in an American TV series that was based around singing. Sadly, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the World. All were put on hold indefinitely, fingers crossed I can take on this role soon! I have been approached by several beauty industries in the USA to be the face of their product but it has been through COVID making it impossible to pursue these opportunities. Let’s hope the pandemic settles quickly for everyone’s welfare.

  1. Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Harmony– I cannot think of a fun mistake just unrealistic goal setting leading to silly hiccups along the way. I used to set unrealistic goals for myself and end up making a mess of the song I was singing. I was after perfection on the first go when I did not achieve these goals, I would doubt myself which would cause me to remain stagnant and not improve as I was placing pressure on myself to always be perfect. I learned that to achieve a goal takes more than a day it takes major dedication and commitment. Never give up!

  1. What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?

Harmony– I am currently working on writing an album and hope to have a song or two released by the end of the year, get ready! I have also been involved in several photoshoots for modeling recently and been asked by many companies to be a brand influencer. I am currently going through the brands as I want to be sure I believe in the item I am representing.

  1. Who are some of the most interesting people you have interacted with? What was that like? Do you have any stories?

Harmony– One of the most inspiring people I have met is Callum Francis who was one of the lead stars of Kinky Boots Australia. Callum was extremely kind and genuine when interacting with him. Talking to Callum was like talking to a friend. A gracious star with so much talent.

I have also been involved in runway workshops and shows for modeling with Meika Woollard who is an amazing fashion model. Meika is both beautiful inside and out. An inspiration to everyone she meets.

  1. Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Harmony– As I noted earlier, don’t set unrealistic goals. Set smaller goals such as daily, monthly or yearly goals. Instead of setting a goal that may take years to achieve in an unrealistic time frame, you are only setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

Always be true to yourself and make time to do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, you are the most important person to the success of your career.

  1. You have been blessed with success in a career path that can be challenging. Do you have any words of advice for others who may want to embark on this career path, but seem daunted by the prospect of failure?

Harmony– It is a challenging career path and you will always get more No than Yes. That is part of the Music/Entertainment industry if you have a dream never give up. Strive to always be you not someone you believe others want you to be. We are all unique in our own special ways.

  1. Can you share with our readers any self-care routines, practices, or treatments that you do to help your body, mind, or heart to thrive? Kindly share a story or an example for each.

Harmony– It is important to take 5 to 10 minutes a day to decompress and just breathe it helps everything become clearer. I often need to take time away from digital technology and just allow myself time to clear my mind.

I tend to write a lot of music, either scripted for an instrument such as guitar, piano, or drums, or worded lyrics. This helps me relax and release happy emotions. After a challenging day, I will pick up the guitar and let it all play out.

  1. What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why? Please share a story or example for each.

Harmony

  1. It’s not going to be easy, from online bullying to in-person bullying/ harassment I’ve experienced it all. It’s hard work and dedication to not let these words and actions get to you.

  1. Each day will bring a new challenge, you have your good and your bad days. There have been times when I’m having a bad day, I have wanted to give up. But I just remember tomorrow is a new day.

  1. Don’t take negativity to heart, use negative comments to fuel yourself up, get yourself motivated to be better. Turn negativity into constructive criticism.

  1. Always be yourself, I tend to hear other singers trying to imitate a singer and copying their sound/ brand. I have always been told I have a unique voice, and that no one has heard a voice like mine. Which originally, I thought may have been a bad thing, turns out having a unique voice and sticking to your own image/ brand is what can land you a job, record deal, or career path in the music industry.

  1. The music industry is a lot more technical and hard work people may think. People may think singers and performers have it easy, but turns out most of the time it takes great dedication and being committed. From understanding music notes, scriptures and pieces it can take years to perfect, but it is a very important skill to have in the music industry.

  1. Can you please give us your favorite  “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

Harmony– Next to love, music is the best solution to any problem. Music feeds the heart with what it needs at the moment.”

This is relevant as through all situations and hardships music has stuck by me and been my number 1 main interest and love. Music can heal the soul and lift your spirit even on the darkest day. Music and singing lift my mood up in all situations and allows me to feel free.

  1. None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

Harmony– This would definitely, have to be my amazing vocal coach of 7 years, Cassandra Ame, through all of my singing adventures she has coached me all the steps of the way. Cassandra has helped me improve my singing and made me the performer, artist, and songwriter I am today.

Cassandra is not only a talented artist herself but the best mentor/coach a person can have always made sure I get the best advice and opportunity to further my career.

  1. You are a person of enormous influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

Harmony– This would have to be starting a music program/ school for the underprivileged. That allows everyone the opportunity to learn music whether it be singing, choir or an instrument of choice. An All-inclusive program for all from babies to adults. Music classes to heal the soul and med the heart.  Everyone deserves the chance to study/ experience the joy music can bring to one’s life.

  1. We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch, and why? He or she might see this. 🙂

Harmony– That would have to be 100%, Scooter Braun. It is my dream to not only meet Scooter but be signed with his label School Boy Records/SB Projects. Scooter is talented and well established in the music industry. He also has a World of knowledge in the industry that would set my career on fire. I also love that when Scooter does an interview, he is extremely humble and gracious even after all his success in the music industry.

If you are reading this Scooter give me a chance you won’t regret it!
