During the ceremony, Jay-Z performed “Public Service Announcement” as Brady entered, a nod to the quarterback’s pre-game ritual. Brady has often mentioned Jay-Z as his favorite rapper, making the performance seem fitting. However, Antonio Brown viewed it differently. He took issue with Jay-Z’s participation in this event over others he deemed more significant, particularly those tied to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop in 2023.

“Jay didn’t perform at any Hip Hop 50 concerts last year,” Brown pointed out. “Where the fans would’ve known every word to his songs.” Brown further criticized the rapper’s involvement in Brady’s event, suggesting it was racially motivated. “But he makes time to get ignored by rich white folks smh.”

Brown isn’t alone in his criticism. Jay-Z faced backlash for not participating in the Hip Hop 50 concerts, many of which were held in his home state. Additionally, his 2019 partnership between Roc Nation and the NFL sparked controversy, with some accusing him of sidelining Colin Kaepernick’s protests.

Jay-Z addressed similar criticism in a 2020 New York Times interview, explaining that the collaboration aimed to further social justice initiatives, aligning with Kaepernick’s original goals. Despite the ongoing discussions, Jay-Z has remained silent on Brown’s latest comments, and given his typical disengagement from online spats, a response is unlikely.
