Bella Hadid is a prolific vintage lover—especially pieces from the ’90s and early aughts. She has worn vintage Jean Paul Gaultier jeans, Vivienne Westwood corsets, and many other secondhand scores. But now, the model is ready for a new retro look. This week, Hadid was spotted in California hitting the streets in something your grandfather would have worn in the 1950s: a leather vest.
Part biker, part workwear, her brown leather vest has a hint of rockabilly style to it. It’s a tough piece to pull off in the present day, but the model, somehow, pulled it off. She styled it with a white shirt with a wide collar, which also had a throwback feel, ripped jeans, layered necklaces, and patent creepers. Hadid is clearly ready for the return of vests—but the question is, are you? The last time we saw a real vest fashion moment was in the late 2000s, when Gossip Girl characters like Serena van der Woodsen would strut around New York City in sequined iterations. But if someone like Hadid is starting to wear them on the streets, you can bet it’s a sign that they’ll soon be popping up on the runways, too.
