Premiere: Dolly Dirtbag Releases a New Single “All This Time”

Dolly Dirtbag Releases a New Single “All This Time”. “All This Time,” is a melancholy, nostalgic song about yearning for and mourning the loss of a younger, more perfect version of yourself. Written, produced, and recorded by Dolly Dirtbag. She is at times bratty, at times wistful, at times enraged and her songs range from dreamy ballads to experimental sound poems to high energy pop, all with electronic production, catchy melodies, and an affinity for processed or altered vocals. Her diverse influences include Kate Bush, Caroline Polachek, Mitski, Oneohtrix Point Never, SOPHIE, and late 90s Eurodance/pop-infused trance.
In September 2018, Dolly self-released UNCOVERED, her debut EP, and in May 2019, she graduated from CalArts with an MFA in Music Technology. At CalArts, Dolly developed the Infinity Glove and Dolly’s Selfie Stick, two tools to help bring the character(s) to life in performance. In June 2020, Dolly released the single “Broken Shell,” and also opened her online shop, where she sells handmade and reworked clothing and jewelry. She plans to release three more singles in August and September 2021: “All This Time,” ” I Want Everyone to Like Me,” and “Too Little Too Late” before self-releasing her debut full-length album, Slug Dreams on September 14, 2021.

The Dolly pantheon plays with feminine tropes like the sexualized little girl, the bratty teenager, the scorned woman, but also includes a gender-neutral, calm, and heavenly slug and seeks to complicate stereotypes by refusing to occupy a stable persona. Dolly thrives most in areas of tension between supposed opposites or differentiated categories: in between characters, genres, genders, in between high and low-brow culture. The project also straddles the line between playful, over-the-top sarcasm and raw emotional vulnerability and in doing so speaks to the universal struggle to forge a self somewhere in between authenticity and performance.

Duke Dennis Caught Off Guard by GloRilla’s Flirtatious Bar on New Remix

HonkMagazine

GloRilla has done it again, bringing excitement to the internet with a surprising shoutout. The Memphis rapper recently joined forces with Jorjiana, a rising artist from the Midwest, on a remix of her song ILBB2. GloRilla’s energy and clever lyrics were on full display, but one particular line really caught everyone’s attention, “They say shooters shoot / Duke Dennis, what’s up with you?” Yes, you read that right! GloRilla gave a shoutout to Duke Dennis, a popular streamer and content creator, in her song. Fans couldn’t wait for him to hear it, and during a recent livestream, Duke reacted with a mix of disbelief and amusement.

When he heard his name, he raised his arms in mock surprise and playfully distanced himself from the line that came right before it, which described friends in a fun way. With a big smile, he seemed entertained and flattered by the mention. Now, everyone is wondering if GloRilla and Duke will actually meet up. Fans on social media are buzzing with excitement, some hoping for a possible romance between the rapper and the streamer, while others just love the fun back and forth moment.

What’s clear is that GloRilla’s move was a smart marketing tactic. She created a moment that went viral and connected with Duke’s huge following, benefiting both of them. The remix will likely attract more listeners, while Duke gained some unexpected attention from a rising star in hip-hop. It’s a win-win situation, and regardless of what happens next, everyone is excited to see where this goes. For now, Duke Dennis can sit back and enjoy this spotlight in the music world. And as for GloRilla? She took her shot, and it seems like she might just have hit the mark.

Outrage Erupts After DJ Akademiks Affiliated Account Compares Drake to Emmett Till

HonkMagazine

The ongoing rivalry between famous rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar has stirred up a lot of discussions, but one recent comparison went too far for many people. An account linked to DJ Akademiks made a controversial comment, comparing Drake’s current disputes with Kendrick to the tragic history of Emmett Till, a young African American boy who was murdered in 1955 in a racially motivated hate crime. Many on the internet quickly reacted, deeming this comparison reckless and deeply offensive. As the conflict between these two artists heats up, fans’ emotions run high, and debates have taken on a life of their own. Supporters on both sides are making wild claims to defend their favorite artist.

Even comedian Conan O’Brien got in on the action, joking at the Oscars that, at some point, Kendrick would call Drake a “pedophile.” This joke upset some people in Drake’s camp, but the backlash from the earlier tweet was much more intense. Many fans expressed their outrage, criticizing the account for such an extreme comparison. Emmett Till’s murder was a horrific incident that helped ignite the civil rights movement and highlighted the racial injustices in America. For many, equating such a tragic event with a dispute between two rappers felt utterly ridiculous. People emphasized that experiencing diss tracks in music is nowhere near comparable to an act of racial violence.

It’s important to mention that while this account is associated with DJ Akademiks, he doesn’t directly control it. This distinction has been pointed out before, especially as tensions have risen in the feud between Kendrick and Drake. Nevertheless, the damage was done, and the tweet highlighted how online fan culture can quickly become problematic. Though rap rivalries often involve strong statements and heated emotions, there’s a thin line between passionate debate and insensitivity. The reaction to this comparison shows that not every argument in hip-hop should be aimed at shocking people. In a rivalry as significant as this one, fans should remember there’s always room for respect, even when things get intense.
