On this day in 2005, millennial music powerhouse Murder Inc. was put under pressure by the FBI, thus, forcing the surrender of label heads and brothers Irving and Christopher Lorenzo aka the Gotti Brothers on money laundering charges.

The FBI spotlighted the Gotti brothers as record execs with criminal ties, alleging that the Murder Inc. imprint was merely a front to launder proceeds from Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff’s underworld enterprise, The Supreme Team. Following McGriff’s executive-produced, full length 2003 film Crime Partners, the Bureau claimed that the soundtrack to the movie, among other avenues of income of Murder Inc. was used to launder Supreme Team drug money and raided the offices.

The Lorenzo brothers plead not guilty in their case against the FBI, spending upwards of $10 million in legal fees in their case against the government. Nevertheless, the brothers came out victorious, winning their case against the U.S. government and cleared their names, even with the government’s 98% conviction rate.

In an era where rappers getting indicted AND convicted by the government is virtually a normal occurrence, the big win for Murder Inc. was a win for Hip Hop and emphatically a piece of Hip Hop history!

Kehlani Clarifies A ‘Joke Gone Awry’ of Her Child Being “wife in a past life” Amid Custody Battle

Kehlani

In a storm of accusations, Kehlani recently took to Instagram to dispel rumors surrounding comments she made concerning her five-year-old daughter. On November 13, the singer became the subject of concern when court documents suggested that Kehlani referred to her child as “her wife” from a previous life. Although her comment was seemingly intended as a humorous remark, the statement has since been misinterpreted and sparked a wave of misunderstanding, leading to widespread confusion.

Kehlani explained what really happened and the context behind her comment in a lengthy series of posts on Instagram. She explained that the concept of the “wife in a past life” remark originated from a lighthearted conversation after a past-life reading. “Laughing at it and considering it was something light never meant to be taken seriously,” she stated. “I shared what I considered to be a humorous recap with my child’s father,” acknowledging the rumors swirling about her role as a parent. She never imagined it would one day be blown out of proportion into something dark and unfounded.

In her series of posts, Kehlani accused her ex of twisting her words out of context and framing them to look as damaging as possible. She emphasized how painful it is to think that, while they may be engaged in a contentious custody dispute, the notion that she could ever be inappropriate toward her child was “the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever f*cking heard.” To support her point, the artist shared screenshots of the original conversation with her ex, displaying a playful, humorous tone rather than anything worrisome. “She was my wife once, lol,” Kehlani wrote. “People take things so far.”

Kehlani also addressed the intense scrutiny she’s been under lately, lamenting the accusations being leveled against her. “This is where I absolutely draw the line,” she declared, standing firm against the wave of allegations amid her ongoing custody battle.

As Kehlani works to set the record straight and protect her reputation as a responsible and caring mother, her situation is a stark reminder of how easily private jokes and innocent remarks can become distorted, especially during high-stakes legal disputes. Kehlani’s transparency and willingness to shed light on her story emphasizes the painful complexities of co-parenting and the crucial need to understand context in such high-stakes situations.

T-Pain Gets A Heroic Tribute in Tallahassee with Key to the City and His Own Street “T-Pain Avenue”

T-Pain

In a heartwarming ceremony on November 10, T-Pain, the talented Tallahassee-born star who changed the game in modern hip-hop, was given a special honor in his hometown with a Key to the City presented and a street named after him. More than 4,000 fans came together at Cascades Park to celebrate, filling the area with excitement as T-Pain took the stage to perform a set of his iconic hits, his voice merging with the night sky and nostalgic images of Tallahassee surrounding him. When he shouted, “Tallahassee love!” the crowd erupted, cheering back, creating a sense of unity and celebrating one of their own.

Mayor John Dailey’s words emphasized the significance of T-Pain’s journey: “He’s had a tremendous impact on the local community of Tallahassee, particularly its younger generation. T-Pain’s success and determination make him a great societal role model.” “I’m just proud to celebrate with him today. Nobody really expects this, you know. The people that usually are real forward about it (saying), ‘I’m gonna be successful. I’m gonna do this. I’m gonna do that.’ Usually, it’s them forcing their way in, and it’s short-lived.”

For T-Pain, this occasion was much more than a career milestone; it held deep personal meaning. “This just goes to show that you can be a regular person…a normal guy,” he reflected. “This is solidified, man, that the city is behind me… This is very special to me, and I appreciate y’all.”

T-Pain’s mother, beaming with pride, shared how monumental this moment felt for the family. His discography, with hits from Rappa Ternt Sanga to Three Ringz, has left an undeniable mark on music and pop culture.

But the path hasn’t always been smooth.
