The Weeknd Donates Additional $500,000 to COVID-19 Relief

The Weeknd continues to give back to those in need to help combat struggles created by the coronavirus.

On Monday (June 29), Variety reported that the multi-platinum artist donated $500,000 to support COVID-19 frontline workers in his hometown of Scarborough, Ontario. The Weeknd’s contribution to the Scarborough Health Network comes from the sales of the singer’s XO COVID-19 face masks. The Weeknd donated 100 percent of the sales to his hometown to aid in the COVID-19 Emergency Fund.

“I was raised in Scarborough and felt it was important to give back to the community that raised me during the hard times of this pandemic,” said The Weeknd told the publication.

Abel shared his appreciation for fans supporting the line of protective facial masks via social media, writing, “Massive thanks to the fans for buying the xo masks and doing your part in helping fight Covid.”

As the Instagram caption continues, The Weeknd promises to keep doing his part.

“I promised to match what was sold. We need to keep fighting. Also a big shout out to everyone in Scarborough!,” he said.

This is not the first time The Weeknd has donated money to a worthy cause. Earlier this month, the “Blinding Lights” singer made a similar donation, giving $500,000 to bail funds across the United States.

At the time, the 30-year-old entertainer uploaded an Instagram post encouraging fans to keep supporting those on the frontlines protesting for the rights of Black people.

“Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” the post began. “Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount. #blacklivesmatter.”

On top of the $500,000 donation to his hometown, The Weeknd also donated another $500,000 to MusiCares, a charity that has provides health, financial and rehabilitation resources to musicians during their times of need. In total, he has given $1 million to charity in a matter of days.

The rapper has teased an upcoming Migos album in the past, and his latest comments suggest the project is nearing completion. He said he and Offset have been working together and teased that the album is almost ready to be turned in. With the Migos anniversary coming in January, he teased fans might hear something around that time.

The next project will also carry a heavy emotional weight following Takeoff’s death. Both Quavo and Offset have honored his legacy, making any potential Migos return a significant moment for the group and fans. Quavo also hinted that the album will not be another installment in the Culture series and teased a tour to coincide with the project.

Quavo has his own new album on the way before that potential reunion. QRÖMELIFE is set to drop on October 2, and Pharrell helped behind the boards on the project. The album already has a few singles attached to it, including “Backwards” featuring T.I., “Trance (Walk It Down),” and “HAAVIN.”

As of now, January 2027 remains a possibility rather than a confirmed release date. Still, with Quavo and Offset said to be working together and the anniversary of the Migos on the horizon, new music could offer fans a new chapter in the group’s story while keeping Takeoff’s legacy firmly established.

Yella Beezy’s Mo3 Murder Trial Gets New Court Date Before October Jury Selection

Next month, the jury selection process will get underway for the Yella Beezy murder-for-hire case. This is part of the legal proceedings surrounding the 2020 killing of Dallas rapper Mo3.

Beezy’s next hearing is set for October 6, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, according to the Dallas County Clerk and court documents reportedly obtained by Instagram user No Jumper. Judge Chika Anyiam is expected to preside ahead of jury selection later this month.

The latest court date follows Beezy and his defense team’s request for a delay. His trial was scheduled to begin Monday, September 14, but his attorneys asked for more time to obtain the written record from White’s trial. The defense also said a scheduling conflict involves an expert witness they plan to call. Prosecutors did not object to the request, and Judge Anyiam granted the delay.

White’s conviction could put some of the same evidence and arguments from his proceedings back in the spotlight at Beezy’s trial. But the allegation of Beezy orchestrating the killing presents a key issue unique to his case , the prosecutors’ efforts to prove payment. How the evidence is presented and challenged will be a key part of the proceedings.

Another co-defendant is involved in the case. Prosecutors say Brown was allegedly in the car with White when Mo3 died in the Dallas Interstate 35 ambush. Brown is also charged with capital murder in the case.

The next big date on the calendar for now is October 6, when Beezy and his legal team are due back in court. Jury selection is scheduled for October 26, another significant step in the long-running legal saga surrounding the death of Mo3.
