“Villains” by ah-Na blurs the line between AI precision and human emotion

ah-Na

Emerging from Baltimore’s vibrant music scene, ah-Na (Anna Kim) delivers a striking debut single, “Villains”, a K-pop-inspired track that immediately sets her apart in a crowded musical terrain. Far from a typical newcomer, ah-Na represents a fascinating fusion of hybrid AI production and traditional songwriting. Produced and distributed by South Port Studios, the brainchild of Joseph Plocharczyk, VP of Global Talent at Warner Brothers Discovery, “Villains” is the product of an artist collective that thrives at the intersection of technical mastery and artistic experimentation.

Plocharczyk’s background as a classically trained composer, coupled with decades of experience across entertainment, film, TV, and streaming technologies, is evident in the meticulous layers of sound that underpin ah-Na’s vocal performance. Every beat and harmonic shift feels deliberate, yet the track never sacrifices emotional depth for technical complexity. “Villains” captivates listeners with each verse building tension and each chorus offering a release that is both satisfying and immersive. The song’s narrative, carried with subtle vulnerability by ah-Na’s voice, explores themes of identity, power, and the duality within us all. The production elegantly balances futuristic AI textures with organic, human touches, creating a soundscape that feels simultaneously familiar and otherworldly.

What makes ah-Na particularly compelling is her ability to translate cross-industry expertise into music that resonates on a purely human level. The track feels like a glimpse into a new era where technology amplifies artistic expression without overshadowing it. “Villains” commands attention, leaving listeners eager to see how ah-Na continues to shape her hybrid musical identity. With “Villains”, ah-Na establishes herself as a bold, innovative presence in modern music. It’s a debut that promises not just growth but transformation, signaling that her journey is one to watch closely.

Paul Terry, Aptøsrs & Cellarscape unite on bold new album “Alternative Piano Club”

Combining his three artistic alter egos, Paul Terry presents an awe-inspiring new 12-track album, “Alternative Piano Club,” written in collaboration with Aptøsrs and Cellarscape. This is an album-length voyage of music that blends acoustic, rock, and piano-driven cinematic sounds.

Torn between this complex emotional spectrum, all the while the piano remains at its core throughout. Paul Terry opens his “Memento Mori (Chromogenic Phase)” contemplatively, creating a solemn, reflective mood. Cellarscape’s “Three Years Of Roses is warmer, whereas Aptøsrs’ “Questionnaires is much more textured as a large, sculptural post-rock.

“Dave’s Theme,” written by Paul Terry, musically expands the narrative with a touch of cinematic elevation that aligns well. “We Shape The Clouds” by Cellarscape is fluffy and heart-warming, “Writers Behind The Curtain” is somber, more narrative. We are all together in “A Place We Made,” an honest, intimate, emotionally grounded space.

The project contains vocal warmth and cultural depth in the song “This Is My Home by Silas Miami & Lana Crowster. Proceeding in a totally different direction is the stronger emotional clarity of Paul Terry’s acoustic storytelling on “Any Time You Want To Fly” and “No Sleep Has Come.” Cellarscape presents a wide, spacious atmospheric moment in “Cygnus,” while Aptøsrs ends with “Rust Mountain (Monochrome Piano Version),” a simple gem that brings the project full circle.

The mixing of Sam Okell and Adam Noble, the mastering of Alex Wharton and Robin Schmidt have, in many ways, brought their polish to it while still making it feel human. “Alternative Piano Club” is a work entity, where three musical personalities met and talk mind in the same emotional language.
