Hi PRPL CHLD, thanks for taking out time to respond to us. Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
PRPL CHLD – Yes I think I can: I fought cancer a few years ago, and I thought that maybe I would want to quit music and give up on my dreams or something. But the complete opposite happened: I began making electronic music on my own at home when I wasn’t sick from the chemo, and that turned into the “PRPL CHLD” project. It is meant to be something that is an outlet for me creatively, something that can’t be taken away from me no matter how bad things get. Every time I work on my music and DJ sets, it brings me complete joy, with no distractions or compromises.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started this career?
PRPL CHLD – The most interesting thing is probably. That I’ve gotten the chance to go to so many cool places like London, the US, Canada, many beaches and I’ve met many amazing people along the way. It’s interesting to me that I can’t remember the last time that I’ve taken a vacation, mainly because when I was touring, IT WAS A VACATION. A vacation that also made me work hard, haha. But I am kind of a work-a-holic, so I would honestly rather do a tour than a vacation anyway.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
PRPL CHLD – I must first say, that without mistakes, you can’t have any victories. ALWAYS MAKE MISTAKES AND KEEP TRYING!!! Funniest mistake? Hitting myself in the face with the microphone and chipped my tooth. I’ve learned to “KEEP THAT THING 3 INCHES AWAY!!!” Or maybe that music video I released a long time ago that you can’t find online anywhere.
What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?
PRPL CHLD – Right now I am gearing up for Q1 / Q2 2022. I operate more like a fashion brand than a music label… I release music consistently throughout the year, every quarter. I collaborate with other fashion brands and we release merchandise that compliments those songs of that particular season. At the end of each year, I like to look at the entire year as a complete work of art. It all has to work together, and then the next year I do something completely different. Right now, I’m most excited about the upcoming live dates and also some secrets that we may share in early 2022.
Who are some of the most interesting people you have interacted with? What was that like? Do you have any stories?
PRPL CHLD – I worked with the infamous Kim Fowley (creator of The Runaways / Joan Jett) and I even got to hang with Joan at the studio once. There was just so much to soak up and learn. And for them to be interested in what I was doing, and to be as excited about the future of music as I was – it was a real inspiration and a pretty cool experience. Kim Fowley passed away shortly after, I was one of the last artists to ever work with him. I went to dinner with him, my brother from another mother Matt, and Sebastian Bach from that one hairband. They were so “Hollywood ” it was too funny.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
PRPL CHLD – Focus on your mental health: that is 100 percent for me. Gain the right perspective on yourself. And take your mental health seriously when it comes to touring/being online. Don’t let people impact you in negative ways: ALWAYS BE YOU and remind yourself that YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND HEALTHY. Never, EVER listen to a hater. Either laugh them off or feel bad for them for being so unhappy. But don’t you let it affect YOU!!
You have been blessed with success in a career path that can be challenging. Do you have any words of advice for others who may want to embark on this career path, but seem daunted by the prospect of failure?
PRPL CHLD – YES ABSOLUTELY. Get ready to fail. Get ready to make failure your new best friend. Start to LOVE FAILING. I have always seen failures as almost like a cheat code: you fail, and you get the RIGHT answers immediately after. If you DO NOT TAKE ACTION, you will be left with regret. And that is something you want to avoid –
REGRET is the silent killer of the human / LACK OF CONFIDENCE is the silent killer of the artist. Be confident and live with no regrets 🙂
Can you share with our readers any self-care routines, practices, or treatments that you do to help your body, mind, or heart to thrive? Kindly share a story or an example for each.
PRPL CHLD – Yes sure. Lately avoiding alcohol had been an incredible way to avoid feeling any type of way… it takes away your energy and it is hard to put in the required hours if you aren’t focused. Sleep is also important. I might take a Monday and Tuesday just for sleeping. Because I might be at the club all week and up until 8 am Performing- this life can take a toll on you without you realizing it. If you’re lacking motivation or inspiration, just sleep for a day or two. Pro athletes use this method as well.
What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why? Please share a story or example for each.
PRPL CHLD –
Ok here we go:
1. It’s harder than you think: I would have learned more, faster.
2. It’s easier than you think: I wouldn’t have taken the breaks I did, because of the overwhelming pressure to “make it”. If you’re happy, YOU MADE IT
3. Be an electronic artist: I honestly love it so much, I kinda wish I didn’t mess around singing in a punk band as long as I did. When I went solo, everything clicked for me.
4. Don’t let personal life mess up your artistic / business goals: find someone who supports you and doesn’t want to see you fail
5. Don’t listen to other advice, spend more time creating your own tried-and-true advice: kind of hypocritical to say in an advice column lol but it’s probably the most important thing I ever learned.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
PRPL CHLD – OK sure: hanging out in the chemotherapy ward for 3 months was all I needed to understand that life is short, and to be unhappy is just probably not worth it. Everyone there was in a pretty good mood, and it made me kind of feel like, “wow, and I’m getting out of here, and I’m in a BAD mood?” get that perspective fixed!!!
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
PRPL CHLD – Yeah, my brother Matt (from another mother) lol has been there since I first went solo, and he always saw the light in me. He never listened to the BS in the press or from people that were basically haters. And because of that, he became my personal manager way back at the beginning, and still to this day. We have nothing but great memories of going through this industry alone.
You are a person of enormous influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
PRPL CHLD – To be honest, I’ve got the type of energy that could probably come up with maybe a few different ideas for the future… because, at the end of the day, I do what I do because I can genuinely see that people LOVE AND APPRECIATE IT. That makes me feel so inspired to keep doing bigger and better things. I would love to make anyone in the chemo ward have a better experience. I would love to also create a live concert experience that is healthy and energizing, like Coachella but way smaller and more fun. Oh, and I truly want to build an enormous animal shelter for any abused animals, and live on-site with workers to take care of them. I have rescued 3 guinea pigs thus far, and they are my biggest supporters:) So maybe mix them all together into one big charity-animal-tropical EDM getaway?
We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US with whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch, and why? He or she might see this. 🙂
PRPL CHLD – Let’s see…. right now? Gary Vee is my guy.. Dan Pena I would love for him to scream at me for a while lol. Probably Deadmau5 / Steve Aoki / Armin Van Buuren would be absolutely mind-blowing… Kanye West definitely, and also – Elon Musk of course. I want to start a record label with Elon, I think we could probably do really cool things for the music on Mars!!

“Little Louis” by Tom Collins turns an introspective heartache into life’s hopeful anthem

Tom Collins presents himself as a captivating talent and noteworthy figure in contemporary songwriting, distinguished for conveying essential lifelines through his music. With his newest single, “Little Louis,” the rising indie artist has created something even more profound, luminous, and truly unforgettable, effectively exploring themes such as vulnerability and defiance. It marks an impressive advancement in his artistic evolution, exhibiting a blend of lyrical sincerity and nuanced storytelling that may soon establish him as a prominent vocalist within the timeless indie genre.
Upon the initial guitar strum of “Little Louis,” listeners are introduced to intricate guitar work and musical elements reminiscent of a late-night introspective revelation. As the composition progresses, it transforms into a resonant anthem for the morning, encapsulating the experiences of two young hearts, one boy and one girl, each burdened by challenging beginnings as they endeavor to move beyond the influences of their pasts towards uncertain futures. This track is a subtle yet powerful testament to those who courageously pursue their aspirations in a society that frequently neglects their struggles. It embodies the essence of a quietly confident anthem, symbolizing the journey of an individual who’s lived a little, experienced difficulties, and still dares to dream.
What makes “Little Louis” particularly special is its emotional duality, skillfully balancing elements of grit with tenderness and grandeur with intimacy, while simultaneously offering glimpses of hope. The chorus carries an undercurrent of resilience that resonates with the listener long after the final note fades. The composition establishes a dynamic tension by effectively contrasting themes of pain and perseverance, while juxtaposing the haunting shadows of the past with an aspirational quest for light. The instrumentation is rich yet tastefully restrained, featuring jangling guitar riffs, sweeping melodies, and deeply relatable lyricism, thereby fostering a visceral connection to the narrative for the audience.
Collins’ artistic trajectory aligns favorably with contemporaneous artists like Sam Fender, whose narrative-driven songwriting resonates with audiences similarly. He draws influences from Jamie Webster and The Hunna, both known for their sophisticated melodies and polished production techniques. Collins is navigating a grounded and humanistic path within the music industry, and his track “Little Louis” exemplifies this perspective. The song explores themes of heartbreak, the search for existential significance, and the innate desire for an introspective connection. It serves as a poignant reminder of the shared struggle for companionship and understanding amid life’s inherent challenges, positioning it as an essential inclusion for any discerning music enthusiast’s repertoire.

PURE XTC stirs the emotional wheel of heartbreak with her anthemic new single “Drive”

Alt-pop artist PURE XTC has delivered a heart-wrenching ballad with her latest single “Drive,” the sonic embodiment of emotional unraveling. This track doesn’t just play through your speakers; it resonates deep within your bones, showcasing PURE XTC’s most cinematic moment yet that feels like the soundtrack to a breakup you didn’t see coming until it was already behind you.
Co-written by Taylor Hughes with lyrical contributions from Mariel Loveland, “Drive” encapsulates the gut-wrenching moment when love unravels quietly, culminating in a profound realization. It deviates from the typical narratives of angry outbursts or dramatic breakdowns; instead, it focuses on the slow deterioration of love, capturing the ache of recognizing that someone you once believed was your forever has become a stranger sitting beside you. It conveys a sense of surrender wrapped in reverb, portraying a state of being too exhausted to fight, too numb to hope, and simply ready to move on, not necessarily forward, but away.
Musically, the track features hypnotic synths and reverb-drenched guitars that shimmer like streetlights on wet pavement. The steady beat mimics the rhythm of a long drive with no destination, fueled solely by the urge to keep moving. Hughes’ vocal performance paints a vivid soundscape that feels like emotional release in motion, a moody companion for late-night solitude.
What makes “Drive” compelling is its honest restraint and refusal to glamorize heartbreak. Instead, it embraces the ambiguity and messy emotions involved in letting go, ironically making it resonate even more. The vulnerability present isn’t just in the lyrics; it permeates every layered sound and tension that never quite resolves.
PURE XTC isn’t merely creating music; she’s building an intimate and vast sonic universe. With this release, she solidifies her status as a master of emotional storytelling through sound, demonstrating her ability to transform the messiest feelings into something beautifully haunting. Buckle up as she invites listeners into her world, one that lingers long after the last note fades.
