Limi: Crafting Dreams into Melodies – Embarking on a Soulful Sound Journey
Limi is an emerging pop sensation hailing from Novi Sad, Serbia, and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, who offers a fresh perspective on the world of pop music. Limi’s musical odyssey is more than a melange of sounds; it’s a tapestry woven from her diverse background and global experiences. Her unique upbringing between Serbia, Ukraine, and the Balkans has imbued her music with a cultural richness that resonates with audiences worldwide.
Infused with the influences of iconic pop divas from the late 2000s and a contemporary blend of R&B and ambient trap, Limi’s sound is more than just catchy tunes; they’re heartfelt narratives that delve into the complexities of love, life, and self-discovery. The honesty in her lyrics and the authenticity in her voice create a profound connection with her listeners, making her not just a musician but a soulful storyteller. After moving to Orlando, Florida, to study music business, she honed her craft and eventually made her way to New York. With hit singles like “The Best I Ever Had” and “Obsessed,” Limi has garnered over 60 million streams, solidifying her place in the international indie music scene.

Hello there, welcome to Honk Magazine. To kick things off, Can you tell our readers about what really inspired you to write music?
Limi – I have always enjoyed writing ever since I can remember. It started in the form of poems and journaling. It helped me clear my head and express what I was feeling. Music had a similar effect – it always resonated with me on a deeper level, and I loved singing and performing for my friends and family as a kid. So, at some point, they merged, and songwriting became like therapy for me. There’s something about it that helps me access the parts of me that don’t usually come out and express myself in ways that nothing else can compare to.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
Limi – I think I always knew. It was just one of those things. Music has been my focus ever since I can remember, and I never wanted to do anything else. I would go to school and write lyrics in class, then come home and make demos on my computer. At some point, I started posting them online, and things took off from there. The specific moment that made me think to myself, “I can do this,” was when “The Best I Ever Had” took off, mainly because it felt so personal, and people seemed to resonate with it. That song truly changed everything for me.
Tell us what is so unique about you and your music?
Limi – Growing up in different countries and places and being exposed to many different cultures, all of these sounds and experiences stayed with me and blended into something interesting. People often tell me they don’t know who to compare me to, which is an excellent compliment because I’m not sure either. Having a unique life story translates to music as well by combining different influences that wouldn’t typically be associated with each other – like Balkan sounds and alternative R&B.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
Limi – Wow, this is a hard one! I made many mistakes, but they were more painful than funny. However, once, I had a famous producer ask me to send him some stuff I was working on, and I was so excited to send off the email that I accidentally sent the tunes with half of the vocals muted. That was pretty embarrassing, but it turned into a funny story. So the lesson here is: triple-check everything before you hit “send”!
Tell us about your latest releases and what inspired you to create them?
Limi – My first album came out on September 29th of this year! I started working on it in 2020, a long process. It sums up the past 3 years of my life, and writing it actually helped me process a lot of the things that I went through. I wanted to capture different moments and feelings I’ve had at other points in time and create a sonic experience around these stories that will make the listener feel like they’re really there in that moment. I wanted it to feel almost like a dream. Dakun (my producer) was fundamental in making my vision come to life. We spent so much time working on these songs and ensuring they tell the right story, especially all together. It’s personal but familiar to many of us, and people can feel it.
Please give us a brief insight into your upcoming projects.
Limi – I have a few singles coming up and some collaborations I’ve been a part of. Other than that, it’s an open road! The second album is in the works, but I don’t want to force anything. I’m going with the flow and trying to experiment and have fun with writing for a while.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
Limi – How relationship-based this industry is. It’s important not to burn bridges and equally as important to choose your people carefully. And taking action will teach you more than any amount of planning will. Even if you don’t think you’re ready, you must start somewhere.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Limi – I need this advice the most. But learning not to put too much pressure on yourself and being able to disconnect from the world here and there is really important. We all get caught up in social media and the internet, which gets overwhelming. So, stepping away and focusing on what’s happening helps you stay grounded. Going into nature and spending time with people you love is fundamental. It’s the simple things that keep us sane 🙂
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) that you are passionate about?
Limi – Music consumes most of my time, so there aren’t many things at the moment, but I keep it fun. I love creating in all its forms, so I’m always looking for ways to explore that. Nail art is my little hobby. I also love reading, traveling, spending time with my dog, playing video games (if there’s a new Assassin’s Creed out), or catching up with friends. I want to try out acting, and I’m currently obsessed with the idea of learning to make clothes, so that can happen soon.
Any last piece of advice for those artists who just started making music?
Limi – Have fun! Enjoy every step in the process, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Learning technical skills can get frustrating, but it’s crucial to at least get your basic ideas down by yourself. Listen to that voice inside and follow your intuition. Trust your gut instincts over what others say. Never stop learning. Think long-term. And do it for the right reasons.

Album Review
R3b3l I explores self-discovery through sound on “A Different Frequency” album
In a music scene often ruled by lyrics, R3b3l I proves that you can tell a powerful story without a single lyric. “A Different Frequency” is a twelve-track instrumental hip-hop and rap-inspired album inviting you into a deeply personal journey of growth, self-discovery, and purpose, speaking its message purely through mood, rhythm, and expression.
“Dance Before the Throne” opens the album, immediately establishing the tone of reflection and reverence. From here, “Elevate” and “The Wave” continue, adding momentum and a sense of movement and change. Each piece is a chapter in a larger story, allowing you to interpret the music with your own experience.
Songs like “I AM Power,” “Level Up,” and “Awaken” seem to be a big part of the progression of the album. The energy is one of empowerment and inner evolution. “The Jazzy Hop” is a nice change of pace in style, with a smooth, groove-flavored taste that shows R3b3l I’s versatility. Meanwhile, “Carousel,” “Raindrops,” and “Heartbeat” are moments of introspection that balance uplifting themes with emotional depth and openness.
The project wraps up on an emotional high with “Ancestors,” a heartfelt tribute to the forebears and the invisible forces that still influence us on our journeys. It’s a fitting way to close out an album about connection, growth, and purpose. “A Different Frequency” is more than a collection of tracks with carefully constructed instrumentals and thoughtful sequencing, and it’s a rewarding journey for those who want immersive instrumental hip-hop with heart, imagination, and substance.

“Signalling Signatures” finds Mr Pigeons exploring dreams, truth, and hidden meanings
While the first look at an upcoming project usually sets the expectations, Mr Pigeons does something more ambitious with “Signalling Signatures.” With this release, the hip-hop artist opens up a portal into “Shining Arras,” inviting you into a world where dreams, symbols, and hidden meanings collide.
“Signalling Signatures” is an exploration of the thin veil between reality and imagination, based on themes of altered consciousness and shifting perspectives. The song is a mix of mythology, film, and spiritual symbolism and encourages you to look beyond the ordinary and find the messages in everyday life. Mr Pigeons delivers with purpose and swagger, blending introspection with crisp storytelling. He also renders the abstract ideas of the song accessible.
The thing about “Signalling Signatures” that is so compelling is its sheer audacity to challenge you. There are no easy answers in this song, only a quest for truth, perception, and uncertainty. A good opening chapter to “Shining Arras,” and it manages to build up suspense as well as showing Mr Pigeons’ artistic vision. “Signalling Signatures” is a good introduction to what could be an interesting new creative phase for the artist.
