Catterina Reminisces On Romance Before Heartbreak In New Single “Waiting”

“Waiting” is a brilliantly melancholic indie-pop track backed by a pristine, acoustic driven soundscape that wistfully looks back on the good times of a past relationship.

Indie-pop singer-songwriter Catterina delivers heartbreaking poetry in her new single, “Waiting,” out December 3rd, with an acoustic version releasing December 17th. Catterina’s decadent vocal performance absolutely entrances listeners on this folk-kissed, indie-pop track; her warm, silky tone offers a colorful depth that shines with a mesmerizing brilliance as she painstakingly explores the complex emotions inherent to heartbreak. Behind chilled lyricism steeped in melancholy, the warmth at the core of Catterina’s voice offers a soothing charm while the artist opens up about her deepest sorrows. She meets listeners with elegance and poise on “Waiting,” all the while never once sacrificing the rawness of her lyricism. The result is a gorgeously somber heartbreak anthem reminiscent of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Adele, and Maggie Rogers.

Inspiration for “Waiting” was taken from Catterina’s personal experiences. The track planted its roots in a moment of longing, for the artist, in which she found herself returning to an old voicemail from a past love. She recounts reminiscing on the withered romance, wishing she could take a step back in time with the hope that she may experience that familiar warmth again. The artist walks listeners through the sour feelings of uncertainty and regret for decisions that are already set in stone, offering a harrowing rawness and vulnerability in her lyrics. Catterina perfectly captures how regardless of where we are in the post-break-up healing process, it can be so easy to romanticize the good times from a past relationship, making it harder to move on. For her, this song represents the moment where, “as much as [she hates] to admit, you’re just waiting on the call you know you’ll never receive.”

Stream “Waiting” on all major streaming platforms December 3rd, and the acoustic version on December 17th.

More About Catterina: LR_5742_Portra 400_014601-R1-036-16A 3.jpg

Catterina is a powerhouse indie-pop singer-songwriter and Brooklyn, NY native, now residing in Houston, Texas. She delivers poetically mesmerizing lyricism with an angelic, full bodied vocal, perfect for lovers of Maggie Rogers and Phoebe Bridgers. The tender warmth flowing through the independent artist’s music emerged once she began to settle into her own artistic identity. For Catterina, a life changing crisis that confronted her family motivated her to explore the depths of her artistry with more vulnerability than ever before. She finds herself gravitating towards artists like Amy Winehouse, Phoebe Bridgers, and Adele, that fuse a variety of genres in their music, as well as fearlessly explore a broad range of subject matter. The independent artist grew up listening to an eclectic mix of music from artists like U2, The Cranberries, Pearl Jam, Alicia Keys, and Alanis Morissette; the early exposure to her parent’s music library had a lasting impact on Catterina’s artistic aesthetic that shaped her into the emotional, colorful musician she is today. After discovering her love and passion for music at the tender age of fourteen, she began cultivating her craft by performing locally with her band Roses In April in 2016. More recently in her solo-career, Catterina’s upcoming EP, Four Twenty One, is a record that covers the stages of heartbreak – from falling in love to falling apart, self-reflection, the intricacies of navigating self-love, and healing your inner child.

Album Review

Paul Terry, Aptøsrs & Cellarscape unite on bold new album “Alternative Piano Club”

Combining his three artistic alter egos, Paul Terry presents an awe-inspiring new 12-track album, “Alternative Piano Club,” written in collaboration with Aptøsrs and Cellarscape. This is an album-length voyage of music that blends acoustic, rock, and piano-driven cinematic sounds.

Torn between this complex emotional spectrum, all the while the piano remains at its core throughout. Paul Terry opens his “Memento Mori (Chromogenic Phase)” contemplatively, creating a solemn, reflective mood. Cellarscape’s “Three Years Of Roses is warmer, whereas Aptøsrs’ “Questionnaires is much more textured as a large, sculptural post-rock.

“Dave’s Theme,” written by Paul Terry, musically expands the narrative with a touch of cinematic elevation that aligns well. “We Shape The Clouds” by Cellarscape is fluffy and heart-warming, “Writers Behind The Curtain” is somber, more narrative. We are all together in “A Place We Made,” an honest, intimate, emotionally grounded space.

The project contains vocal warmth and cultural depth in the song “This Is My Home by Silas Miami & Lana Crowster. Proceeding in a totally different direction is the stronger emotional clarity of Paul Terry’s acoustic storytelling on “Any Time You Want To Fly” and “No Sleep Has Come.” Cellarscape presents a wide, spacious atmospheric moment in “Cygnus,” while Aptøsrs ends with “Rust Mountain (Monochrome Piano Version),” a simple gem that brings the project full circle.

The mixing of Sam Okell and Adam Noble, the mastering of Alex Wharton and Robin Schmidt have, in many ways, brought their polish to it while still making it feel human. “Alternative Piano Club” is a work entity, where three musical personalities met and talk mind in the same emotional language.
