In a recent revelation, Muni Long spilled the beans on the lightning-fast creation of Rihanna‘s timeless hit, “California King Bed.” Despite being a fan favorite for over a decade, the songstress shared that she penned the chart-topper in a mere 10 minutes. Juggling a major move and a studio session, Muni rushed through the writing process to return promptly to her online furniture shopping spree.
“I was in Miami at the time for ‘California King Bed,’ working out of We The Best studio, and I was actually working with Jermaine [Jackson] from The Runners,” she disclosed in an interview with Complex. “I wrote the song in like 10 minutes. I was like, ‘Turn it up, let me get this done real quick,’ so I could go back to looking for my furniture.”
Surprisingly, the track was initially destined for another famous singer, Kelly Clarkson. Muni Long only discovered that Rihanna claimed it months later. “Originally, they were trying to pitch it to Kelly Clarkson,” she shared. “Then I came back two months later, and my publisher Ryan Press said that they were going to cut it for Rihanna. I was super excited.”
While fans revel in Rihanna’s past hits, there’s anticipation for more.
