Tom Hanks Sparks MAGA Outrage With Kendrick Lamar Inspired ‘SNL’ Sketch
Saturday Night Live recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special episode full of humor and famous guest appearances. However, one particular sketch upset a lot of supporters of former President Trump online. The sketch featured a beloved game show parody called “Black Jeopardy,” hosted by Kenan Thompson, and took a comedic look at the cultural differences in America, even referencing Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl. The sketch brought together many comedy stars, including Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and Tom Hanks. Hanks’ role as a conservative character stirred up reactions on social media.
He reprised a character named Doug, who wears a MAGA hat, and showcased the humorous misunderstandings that arise in the game show setting. Thompson joked, “The only Jeopardy! where every single Black viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” leading to a funny exploration of cultural awareness. However, not everyone found it funny. Many Trump supporters took to social media to express their anger, accusing SNL of promoting negative stereotypes about them. One person posted about being upset, stating that the sketch depicted Trump supporters as racist. Another comment echoed similar feelings, criticizing Hanks for making fun of millions of people.
This backlash highlights the ongoing division in American politics, where even a comedy show can become a point of contention. For many, Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance was an important statement about Black empowerment, while others felt it unfairly targeted them. SNL navigated the tricky balance between humor and offense by connecting Lamar’s performance to a comedy sketch. Regardless of one’s opinion on the sketch, whether it’s seen as clever comedy or an unfair jab, it’s clear that SNL continues to spark conversations. With a history of tackling controversial topics, they’re not planning to shy away from this kind of humor anytime soon.

Working with Jab Vix gives texture and dynamics to Aurien’s perspective and sets the sound for the song. It’s more about feeling the music than looking for peaks of high energy. It builds slowly and invites you to sit in the mood.
A highlight is the “Elegant Mix,” which takes the original and gives it a more subdued, slicker makeover. It allows the heart of the composition to come through more intimately, and this duality reinforces the idea behind Château Bonheur Musique as environment, experience, and feeling. “Empatia” is a debut statement and manifesto for the immersive, emotionally intelligent electronic music that works as effortlessly as it does in shared spaces.
